Chapter Seventeen

“NO,” NISHANI MUTTERED and turned away to sit on her bed.

“What do you mean, no?” Rex stood at her door.

He’d just asked her to accompany him to a cocktail party the following evening. They were celebrating the anniversary of the extension to the men’s club Colton owned. Rex was surprised at her lack of excitement to attend. She didn’t blame him. Usually, when he mentioned he was going out, she’d nag until he agreed to take her with him.

The truth—Colton would be there. After he fucked her almost four weeks ago, she was surprised when she woke later that evening to find herself in her bed cuddled under the blanket. Nishani wasn’t sure what she expected of the man. But, avoiding her wasn’t on the cards. Houdini himself probably raised Colton; he was so good at disappearing. While she wasn’t one to marvel on the aftereffects of a lover, it took a lot to suck it up and act like his ignorance didn’t affect her. Only, it did, and he was right. Colton Black might be the most arrogant dickhead she’d ever met, but he sure as hell knew how to fuck a woman, and her body remembered him all too well. She had no one to blame but herself since it was her idea to pursue the man. He’d merely reciprocated her advances. Still, she caught him staring at her ass or breasts the few occasions they bumped into each other. Then his signature scowl appeared, making her think she imagined the whole damn thing.

“Nishi?”

God, when did I become the blabbering infatuated type? She glanced up. Rex watched her intently. “I’m not in the mood.”

“It’s Colton, isn’t it. C’mon spill. What did my big, bad brother, do now?”

Nishani laughed at his look of brotherly concern and moved up to sit against her headboard. “Nothing.”

He dropped to the bed next to her and pulled her into his arms. “I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s bugging you.”

She squirmed to get out of his hold, but his grip was way too secure. With a sigh, she relented and rested her head on his shoulder. “Colton and I—”

“Fucked?” Rex leaned back to look at her face. “Judging by that blush, I’ll take that as a yes.” He chuckled, twisted his body, and rested his head in her lap. “And when did this so-called event take place?”

She laughed at his choice of words. “That afternoon, I wet him with the hose.”

“Seriously? Where was I?”

“In the shower.”

“Okay, if you guys did it already, what’s the issue? And don’t tell me its nothing.” He tugged on a lock of her hair.

Nishani studied the handsome man lying in her lap and, for one stupid moment, wondered what it would feel like to be looking down at Colton instead. She shrugged. “I haven’t seen him since—he’s avoiding me.” Her gaze drifted to the ceiling. She stared. “I date. Well, I went out on a couple of dates. And each one was screwed up than the one before.
